Facade design of the new building of the Rudolf Steiner School, Basel. 2024
In collaboration with Standke Architekten, Basel

Instead of cutting the panel lengths vertically as usual, we decided to tilt the cuts by 10° to create a shadow gap between the panels. Thanks to the three-dimensionality of the corrugated panels, this shadow gap is reminiscent of hand-drawn pencil lines.

We applied the same principle of inclined cuts to the closed windows. The positions of the panels determined the position of the lines, which were cut here at an angle of 25° and 75°. This results in an optical fabric across the entire façade, which visually holds the individual corrugated sheets together. The shadow structure changes depending on the viewer’s point of view or the position of the sun.
